The Fall

The screaming of seagulls,
The babble of tourists,
Clad in sapphire blue oilskins,
We headed into the Mist .

The plunge into whiteness,
The spray of sweet water,
The roaring of the cataract
A giant's laughter.

Voices hushed with awe,
Eyes drinking the beauty in,
The suspension of time,
Serenity within.

A curtain of cream,
A chimney, swirls of droplets,
A realm of unearthliness,
Could anything be more perfect?

The snap of a second,
The unwilling Fall to the earth,
The infinite water crashes down the cleft,
Wrenching eyes away,
A photograph, a memory,
Is all that's left.
